Drawings
Giverny, a studio, a sharpened pencil. Bob Meyer drawings come from a Chicago-born artist and former theater director now working near Giverny. Meyer found drawing as a boy, when he surprised himself by rendering a thumb that looked like a real thumb, and the pencil remains the core of his work. His line is fine and controlled, almost ethereal. The subjects, wind-up toys, theatrical figures and moments of childhood and intimacy, are enigmatic, and the titles, often sardonic or poignant, finish the story. Works on paper like these want close viewing in a hallway, a study or beside a bed. Lean in.
