Brian Sindler
Dawn in a Tuscan field, an easel, and a painter who has learned to work in full sun. Brian Sindler is a landscape painter trained in traditional figure painting at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and The School of Representational Art, a French-style atelier. Invited outdoors by a fellow painter, he spent some ten years learning to paint under the sky. He works in oil, acrylic and gouache on canvas and board from a five-color palette of white, yellow, two reds and blue, making as many as a hundred sketches before painting a few. Shape and design come first; color evokes mood rather than copying a view. Tuscany, Chicago, port towns and bridges appear, often at dawn or dusk, and his Nocturnes turn to fog and darkness. The Tuscany gouaches have been published as prints by PRIMITIVE Modern. Over a bouclé sofa or a stone fireplace, the paintings bring weather into a room.
