Wall Mirrors

A mirror goes wherever trade does. Antique wall mirrors come in carved, gilded, inlaid and painted frames. Moroccan mirrors in carved cedar and camel bone, Indian frames in hammered brass, painted wood from Rajasthan, Javanese teak carved with leaves and tendrils, Venetian mirrors with etched and bevelled borders, French giltwood and English convex girandoles show how widely the form traveled. Hung above a fireplace or a basin, a wall mirror throws light across a room; small frames grouped together read as one composition. Some clouding at the edges, as with old friends.
