Rugs Indian & Pakistani

Borderlands where Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran meet, a tent, a loom, a long season. Indian and Pakistani rugs are in large part the work of the Baluch, nomadic and village weavers of those lands. Baluch pile rugs and runners are dark and lustrous, in madder, aubergine and deep blue with ivory accents and camel-colored grounds; their saddle bags and balisht grain bags kept goods on the move. Ghazni rugs from Afghanistan, runners in Serab and Karabagh designs, and custom pieces knotted in Indian workshops follow the same craft.

Baluch wool is soft and glossy, and the colors deepen in low light. A Baluch runner on a staircase, or a saddle bag made into a pillow, brings in the warmth of the nomad tent.

In the collection now: Indian Pile Rug with Barkcloth Motif and Afghan Balouch Saddle Bag with Straps.
