Globes
A navigator’s desk, a schoolroom corner, a sphere gone amber with age. Antique and vintage globes, terrestrial and celestial, were made for schoolrooms, libraries and the desks of navigators and merchants. Printed paper gores laid over a papier-mâché sphere and varnished have yellowed to a warm amber tone; borders shift, and old empires appear under names long since redrawn. Brass meridian rings, turned wooden stands and tripod floor bases give each globe its silhouette. A library wall of leather spines, a reading chair and a globe on a pedestal make an old pairing; on a travertine console the same sphere becomes a quiet piece of geometry. The world, slightly out of date.
In the collection now: Brass Terrestrial Globe, United States, Columbus Werkstudio Illuminated Globe, and Terrestrial Globe on Serpent Base, ILLUMINATED.
